Dodgers Sweep the Brewers to Secure World Series Spot After Shohei Ohtani’s Historic Night
| Updated Oct. 18, 2025
The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading back to the World Series — and this time, they did it in dominant fashion. Behind a once-in-a-generation performance from Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers completed a four-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS) on Friday night.
Ohtani made baseball history, striking out 10 batters while smashing three home runs — a feat never before accomplished in MLB postseason history. His two-way brilliance powered Los Angeles to a 7–2 victory, sealing the team’s second consecutive trip to the Fall Classic.
⚾ Ohtani’s Unstoppable Night
Ohtani’s impact was felt from the first pitch. On the mound, he mixed his high-90s fastball with a devastating splitter that left Milwaukee hitters guessing all night. At the plate, he launched three towering home runs — one to each part of the field — earning a standing ovation from the Dodger Stadium crowd.
“This was one of the greatest individual performances I’ve ever seen,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “Shohei just took over the game.”
With the sweep, Ohtani improved his postseason record to 3–0 as a starting pitcher while raising his playoff home run total to seven, putting him among the leaders for this year’s postseason.
🔥 Team Effort Behind the Superstar
While Ohtani stole the spotlight, he wasn’t alone. Mookie Betts added two hits and an RBI, while Freddie Freeman delivered a key double in the fifth inning to break open the game. The Dodgers’ bullpen — led by Evan Phillips and Ryan Brasier — held Milwaukee scoreless over the final three innings.
Milwaukee’s ace Corbin Burnes lasted just four innings, giving up five runs on eight hits. The Brewers’ offense, which had powered them past the Braves in the NLDS, simply couldn’t find answers against Ohtani’s dominance.
🏆 Back-to-Back World Series Dreams
The Dodgers now advance to their second straight World Series, where they’ll look to defend their 2024 championship title. Their opponent will be decided between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers, who are still battling in the American League Championship Series.
For Ohtani, who joined the Dodgers in one of baseball’s biggest-ever free agent deals, this performance solidified his reputation as the sport’s ultimate superstar — and possibly the frontrunner for World Series MVP if he continues his hot streak.
“I came to Los Angeles to win championships,” Ohtani said postgame. “We’re not done yet.”
